Today we need to do something for our fitness. 😀
During our travel preparation and planning we found a lot of stuff to do in and around Naga City. Tripadvisor is always a great help for that.
On top of our To Do list are the Malabsay Falls at Mount Isarog.
Mount Isarog is a 1966m high volcano located 20km away from Naga City Centre. The area around Mount Isarog was declared as a National Park in 1938. The volcano is classified as potentially active, although there is no written evidence of an eruption for the last 500 years (source: Wikipedia).
Trekking shoes on and off we go. 😀
1. Malabsay Falls Mount Isarog
We take a Tricycle to the Jeepney Terminal which is actually a small road next to Naga City Peoples Mall in the city centre. Don´t worry if you don´t know where that is. The Tricycle drivers know that.
As we reach that road we stand in front of dozens of Jeepneys and don´t have a clue which one to take.
But the nice thing about travelling in the Philippines is that all locals try to help you.
In order to get to the Malabsay Falls you need to take the Jeepney to Panicuason. There are signs at the sides of the Jeepney stating the route of service.
That´s how it looks like inside a Jeepney. You get in, hand over the money for the drive to the other passengers who will then pass it on to the driver. We paid 30Php from Naga City to Panicuason.
If you want to get to the Malabsay Falls, you have to get to the final destination of the Jeepney.
As the Jeepneys don´t have fixed stop points, you need to tell the driver, when to stop. In order to do that, shout “Para po” and the driver will stop.
Now you have got the choice. Either you take one of the motorbike taxis up the hill or you walk.
The way is easy to walk. Just make sure, you got enough drinking water with you. It might be very hot and humid weather conditions.
On our way we see a lot of these buddies.
Who knows what kind of animal that is?
These are Carabaos. A water buffalo which is found in the Philippines and other parts of South East Asia. It is often used for agricultural work.
Hopefully it won´t start raining. Behind the clouds Mount Isarog is hiding.
We walk and walk and get higher and higher.
The road is getting worse, but we are almost there.
When you reach that gate, you are almost there. That´s the entry to the National Park. You have to pay an entrance fee of 20 Php per person. Make sure you got enough cash with you. Up here no credit cards are accepted. You have to register at the ranger station as well.
If you are not a good swimmer you can get life vests here.
And off we go into the jungle. 😀
The way is slippery and in some parts quite steep. There are some ropes to assist walking at the steepest parts, but make sure to wear proper shoes.
In total we are about 45 minutes on our way now. The sounds of the Malabsay Falls is already coming closer.
And here we go. 😀
You can take an extremely refreshing bath here. It is very cold! Watch the rocks under the surface. The feet are quite easily and that might get uncomfortable on the walk back to town.
The Malabsay Falls are a very peaceful place in a breath-taking nature. You could stay here for hours, have some BBQ and relax far away of the stress of daily life.
We can´t get enough of the many green around us. In Abu Dhabi it is rather sandy. 😀
2. Hot Spring Resort Panicuason
As we started quite early in the morning, we still got a lot of time left to spend our afternoon.
Not far from the Malabsay Falls you can find a Hot Spring Resort in Panicuason.
We decide to walk there. You could also take a Jeepney from the main road. But that might take a while until one shows up.
While walking you see more of the beautiful nature anyway.
So we walk back into the direction of Naga City.
Keep on walking. After a while you will see that sign on the right hand side.
There we have to buy entry tickets. Per person it is 200 Php, 160 Php for students.
But we are not there yet. The resort is still a few kilometres away from the main road. You could again rent a motorbike taxi. But we prefer to walk.
Remember. We want to do something for our fitness today. 😀
We arrive after a 20 minutes walk.
What has the Hot Spring Resort to offer?
- 4 swimming pools with thermal water (temperatures between 29 and 39 degrees celsius)
- a 200m zip line
- climbing wall
- water slides
- accommodation (starting from 1300 Php)
- picnic huts
Exactly what we need now. Relaxing!
The way back, guess what, we walk again.
On the access road a Jeepney driver shows mercy and picks us up and takes us back to the main road. Very nice vehicle.
If you want to get back to Naga, go to the main road and wait for a Jeepney. As it takes quite a while for us we start walking towards Naga and enjoy the breathtaking nature.
For a day trip around Naga City a visit of Malabsay Falls and Hot Spring Resort is ideal.
we advise you to bring the following things:
- proper shoes
- sufficient cash
- sun lotion
- spare clothes (you might sweat a lot)
- hat in order to protect your head from the sun
- sufficient drinking water
- anti mosquito spray
- swim wear
There is no need to bring food as there are some Sari Sari stores in the Panicuson area.
